Institutional Accreditation
January 11, 2024 Update: Sunday, December 3, SACSCOC board determined that Christian Brothers University will remain continued in accreditation for Good Cause and placed on Probation for a duration of 12 months.
Christian Brothers University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award the associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and the master’s degree. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Program Accreditation
Education
CBU is approved as a Teacher Training Institution by the State Board of Education of the Tennessee Department of Education, Ninth Floor, Andrew Johnson Tower, 710 James Robertson Parkway, Nashville, TN 37243-0375. Undergraduate and graduate education programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), 1140 19th Street, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20036, (202) 223-0077.
On October 23, 2022, the Accreditation Council for CAEP granted Accreditation for all initial-licensure level programs offered by CBU’s Department of Education. These programs will be reviewed again in 2029. CBU’s advanced-level programs were granted Probationary Accreditation with the next review scheduled for 2024. Probationary Accreditation is granted when the Accreditation Council determines that an educator preparation provider (EPP) does not meet one (1) of the CAEP standards. Engineering
The chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, (410) 347-7700.
Nursing
The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Christian Brothers University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington DC 20001, (202) 887-6791.
Physician Assistant Program
August 2023 Update:
ACCREDITATION STATUS: ARC-PA has accepted the voluntary withdrawal of the Christian Brothers PA Program from the ARC-PA accreditation process. Effective August 31, 2025, ARC- PA shall withdraw accreditation from the Christian Brothers PA Program. Subject to fulfillment of various obligations, the Christian Brothers PA Program will remain accredited on probation through August 31, 2025. The Christian Brothers PA Program will not accept any new students for enrollment. Specific questions regarding the Christian Brothers PA Program and its plans should be directed to the Program Director.
The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), 12000 Findley Road, Suite 150, Johns Creek, GA 30079 accredits physician Assistant programs in the United States.
At its 2021 March meeting, the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) placed the Christian Brothers University Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Christian Brothers University on Accreditation Probation status until its next review in 2023 March.
Probation accreditation is a temporary accreditation status initially of not less than two years. However, that period may be extended by the ARC-PA for up to an additional two years if the ARC-PA finds that the program is making substantial progress toward meeting all applicable standards but requires additional time to come into full compliance. Probation accreditation status is granted, at the sole discretion of the ARC-PA, when a program holding an accreditation status of Accreditation-Provisional or Accreditation-Continued does not, in the judgment of the ARC-PA, meet the Standards or when the capability of the program to provide an acceptable educational experience for its students is threatened.
Once placed on probation, a program that fails to comply with accreditation requirements in a timely manner, as specified by the ARC-PA, may be scheduled for a focused site visit and is subject to having its accreditation withdrawn.
