In conjunction with the Simultaneous Multi-Sensory Institute of Language Arts (SMILA) Summer Institute, CBU is proud to offer an Additional Endorsement Program for the Reading Specialist PreK-12 license.
This 18-hour licensure program will prepare the Reading Specialist to:
As an advanced program, applicants to the Reading Specialist Program must already hold an apprentice or professional teaching license in the state of Tennessee and must be seeking or already hold a graduate degree.

SMILA Summer Institutes cannot be taken simultaneously (i.e., only one may be taken each summer). Take a look at SMILA's website for more information on meeting dates and SMILA fees.
After completing the required coursework, students in the Reading Specialist Program should complete the Praxis test for Reading Specialist (20300). Students must pass the test before applying to the state of Tennessee for licensure.
Students must have at least three years of teaching experience and have obtained a graduate degree in Education before applying to the state of Tennessee for licensure.
