Book Launch: Silent Acceptance
Saturday, October 06, 2012, 10:30am - 01:00pm
Brother Terence McLaughlin, former president, teacher and trustee at CBU, has recently published a book entitled Silent Acceptance, which is the story of a young black man who seeks to enroll as a student in 1963 at Christian Brothers High School, an all-white Catholic School in this two-culture city of Memphis — and the school's willingness to break ranks with the city's culture code to welcome him. The book is an excellent read that lifts the curtain on events that started the racial integration of high schools in Memphis. Yes, the movement started 50 years ago, but the movement still has quite a journey ahead. Brother Terence has authored several other publications over an extended period of time which focus on various aspects of teaching and the development of fostering a Christian ethos in education. A Book Launch for Silent Acceptance is being held on Saturday, October 6, in Plough Library's Lasallian Section, from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
