UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator

Summary

The UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator, reporting to the Dean of Information Technology Services, performs data center systems engineering, systems administration, and centralized operations and management of the university’s UNIX and Linux computing facilities and environment. The environment includes Unix/Linux servers, Microsoft servers, appliances, SANs, Tape Backup, racks, power, UPS, and air conditioning in two raised floor computer rooms. The role is responsible for hands-on raised-floor operations, UNIX and Linux system administration, system performance, metrics collection and reporting, capacity planning, hardware lifecycle management, rack space, system installations, secure system builds, system standards and documentation, system monitoring, logging, alerting, alert response, system backups, virtualized server environments, patching, Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware, vulnerability scanning, and remediation, service and maintenance contracts.

Working Conditions

Hours are mostly 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, plus system maintenance at night and on weekends; office setting and raised floor computer room setting. On-call 24x7 for emergencies and support. Must be able to lift and install server equipment into equipment racks. Frequent walking and standing. Must have valid driver’s license and own transportation.
