Memphis— Christian Brothers University (CBU) was honored to have four of its students, Sheharyar Minhas, Ashley Prevost, Sana Mujahid, Jennifer Aldrich attend the Alpha Chi National Convention which was held March 15-18 in San Antonio, Texas. Minhas, the current president of the local Alpha Chi and a biology major presented, “Characterization of Lysophosphatidic Acid 3 Receptor Using Computationally Guided Site-directed Mutagenesis;” Mujahid, vice president and biology major, presented “Incorporation of HA into H5N1 Vaccine Virus is Independent of Matrix Gene Origin;” and Prevost, secretary and chemical engineering major, presented “CpG Island Methylation in Prostate Cancer Cell Line.” Aldrich, a business major, served as the junior class representative and was the voting member at the Convention.
They were accompanied by Dr. Malinda Fitzgerald, professor of biology, who received her 10 year service pin at the convention. Fitzgerald has served as a faculty sponsor since 1995. Over 400 students attended from 125 colleges and universities attend this Convention.
Alpha Chi is an interdisciplinary honor society. Membership is by invitation only based on academic standing. Only the top 10% of the junior and senior class are eligible. Induction occurs in the fall semester based on previous spring semester grades. ###
