During their first semester, students who make up a cohort in the Master of Arts in Ethical Leadership (MAEL) are given the opportunity to select a recipient for this distinguished award. The class is separated into four groups and required to select a leader from the community that they feel is a servant leader. They must research the individual and present a paper as to why this individual is worthy of the honor. Of the four leaders presented for the award, CBU faculty members chose the one that best represents servant leadership.
Buckman was chosen as the first recipient by the cohort to receive this honorary certificate in ethical leadership for her many outstanding contributions to the Memphis and surrounding communities, and the exemplary leadership that she displayed in all of her roles. Kathy Buckman Gibson received the award in her honor.
