Memphis – It is a rare event for an aunt and nephew to receive their diplomas at the same time, but on Friday, May 9, Austin Johnson and his aunt and godmother, Nancy Lanigan, were both among the more than 400 graduates in the processional at the Christian Brothers University (CBU) commencement exercises held at the Desoto Civic Center.
Johnson was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Finance with Magna Cum Laude honors. Lanigan was awarded two master’s degrees, the Master of Arts in Executive Leadership and the Master of Business Administration. After the ceremony, the pair proudly displayed their diplomas and posed for the famous graduation photos.
Kay Johnson, Austin’s mother, stated, “We are so very proud of both of them and all they have accomplished.” The entire family was overjoyed by Johnson and Lanigan’s hard work and achievements in their individual pursuits of higher education.
Johnson, son of Warren and Kay Johnson, is currently employed at Morgan Keegan. Lanigan, wife of Tony Lanigan and mother of Thomas, David, Nash, Frank and Reid Lanigan is the Admissions and Special Events Director at Christian Brothers High School. ###
