Memphis – Christian Brothers University (CBU) announced Kelli Wildman as the new Dean of Academic Advising, effective July 7. Wildman will advise incoming freshman and undeclared upperclassmen, in addition to assigning students to specialized advisors.
Academic advising is not new to Wildman. Her most recent position was as an advisor for freshman as they entered Louisiana State University (LSU). Wildman also served as a general academic advisor in LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business for several years. Although a native of Baton Rouge, LA, Wildman is familiar and feels at home in Memphis as she spent six years working in the Shelby County school system as a teacher at Kirby and Germantown high schools.
Wildman is looking forward to returning to this area in which she feels she could happily retire.
After the experience of a large university, she believes that CBU’s size is an added bonus because she will be able to get to know the students she is advising. While she knows that the previous Dean of Academic Advising — Tom Burk, who is retiring after 34 years at CBU – is somewhat of “a legend,” as she puts it, “I recognize that I will have to work hard to build a trust with students, and I can do that by validating each student individually,” Wildman states. “I am excited about being a Buc!”
A graduate of LSU with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, Wildman is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Resource Education and Workforce Development at LSU. ###
