Christian Brothers University (CBU) will host a creative writing and art workshop designed to inspire high school students to combine the two mediums to present a vision of themselves. This workshop will be held Wednesday, October 1 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Kenrick Hall, Room 24.
Engaging the theme “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been,” this workshop will take a look at students’ vision of themselves yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and will incorporate it into imagistic creative writing and visual art. The use of hands-on presentations and activities will introduce participating students to the idea of using words and art to create their story.
This interdisciplinary program will feature presentations and activities by CBU professors Jana Travis and Karen Golightly as well as poet Eliza Warren and artist Michael Prater. Warren, a Memphis poet, has spent years teaching across the country and creative writing in Korea. Prater, a self-taught painter and collage artist, is known in the art world as “Lo-Fi.” Together, they will engage students in the exploration of these mediums.
This workshop is free and open to all students in grades 9-12. Seating is limited, so advance registration is required. Register now online at: http://www.cbu.edu/arts/artofwords/. For more information, call (901) 321-3335. ###
