IC Students Attend Physics, Chemistry Classes at CBU Campus
Memphis – Immaculate Conception Cathedral School (IC) and Christian Brothers University (CBU) have expanded their dual enrollment partnership to include introductory Chemistry and Physics courses that IC students will take at CBU’s campus.
The courses are in addition to Engineering and French college-credit courses already offered at IC’s campus through its CBU partnership.
Twelve students who met CBU’s rigorous standards are enrolled in the new classes, with six seniors enrolled in Physics and six juniors in Chemistry.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for our students to take college classes and get used to life in a college classroom,” IC high school principal Sally Hermsdorfer said. “We are delighted to enhance our collaboration with CBU for the benefit of our students.”
While CBU and IC partnership have been offering dual enrollment opportunities for past six years, these new course offerings on the CBU campus will allow students to become familiar with college life. To support these endeavors IC modified its class schedule to allow time for the student’s commute to CBU during regular school hours and has arranged transportation.
Dr. John Smarrelli, CBU President, explains,” We are committed to providing opportunities to high school students that will help prepare them for college and allow them to receive college credit as well as credit toward high school graduation. With the opening of the Cooper-Wilson Center for Life Sciences, we are able to offer students state-of-the art facilities, outstanding faculty and the opportunity to experience being on a college campus for their science coursework. Our overriding goal is to provide a positive higher education experience that will inspire the student to pursue a college education.”
