CBU Art Gallery Features Alumnus Gregory Zeorlin

Art by Gregory ZeorlinMemphis – The Beverly and Sam Ross Gallery at Christian Brothers University (CBU) is proud to announce the opening of “A Sense of Timing” featuring the art of Gregory Zeorlin, beginning October 1 through October 21. An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the gallery on the lower level of Plough Memorial Library.

Utilizing his lifelong connection with art, Zeorlin’s work is influenced by the people and places that make up his surroundings. “I pace through daily routines stumbling upon moments of wonder, traces of poetry and reasons for joy which are tempered by the questions of a middle aged man,” Zeorlin stated. Reflections on the way society works and our “sense of timing” are the underlying subject of this collection. “We have made daily living too complicated for our own good,” notes Zeorlin.

Zeorlin’s exhibit at CBU is comprised of three major themes. The first theme takes a look at the simplicity of life through the use of functional keeping pieces called Artclock™ Clocks. Secondly, this exhibit features uncomplicated stick figures depicting people doing simple things such as flying kites and pointing to stars. Finally, the exhibit highlights flowered themed art inspired by wildflower and ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.

Zeorlin is a 1978 graduate of Christian Brothers University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. He earned a Master of Fine Art at New York State College of Art and Design at Alfred University. He has been commissioned for numerous collections and has held solo, two person, group and traveling exhibitions throughout the U.S. Furthermore, he has authored two books, “Around that House” and “Going Somewhere.” Zeorlin has been featured in a variety of magazines, radio and television shows and held numerous speaking engagements. Additionally, he has been an artist in residency, a guest artist, and faculty member at universities and colleges across the country. His work has received several awards including the Merit Award in the 7th Annual National Competition at San Angelo Museum of Art.
