MEMPHIS, TN– Christian Brothers University (CBU) will be offering a new nursing program beginning August, 2011. The program will provide registered nurses (RN) with a path to obtain a full bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) within 18 months.
The program’s curriculum is affordable, convenient and flexible for hard-working nurses seeking to advance their careers in nursing. The new BSN degree offers learning opportunities to registered nurses through an accelerated 18-month plan that blends face-to-face classroom instruction with online teaching, mentoring and advising, all in a convenient evening studies schedule which meets one night per week.
The CBU Nursing Program uses a cohort-based learning module for the RN-BSN completion program. Cohorts of 20-25 adult learners share the academic experience as a cohesive group participating in active learning to enhance nursing knowledge and cognitive skills, including synthesis, analysis and evaluation. Cohort classes begin twice a year, in August and January.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) has mandated that every nurse licensed in 2008 and beyond obtain a BSN degree within ten years. “This mandate is important, because nurses are the front line in patient care, and therefore they should be well-equipped to handle the myriad of needs that arise,” stated Dr. Peggy Ingram Veeser, Director of the Nursing Program at CBU. “With a long history of outstanding undergraduate education, CBU is in an ideal position to add a health science major such as nursing.”
This accelerated BSN program for RNs provides a unique alternative to the traditional method of pursuing a bachelor’s degree. It is designed as a transformational learning experience leading to personal and professional skill development to meet the needs of RNs previously prepared at the ADN or diploma level. In addition, the program will serve the needs of the health sciences industry in the Mid-South by adding qualified BSNs to the local workforce.
Applications are currently being accepted for the fall term which begins in August. For more admission requirements and to learn more about CBU’s new BSN program, contact the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies at www.cbu.edu/nursing or call (901) 321-3291. ###
