CBU Reaffirmed by SACS for Next 10 Years

Memphis – Christian Brothers University (CBU) has again received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for the maximum period of ten years through 2020.

SACS is the recognized regional accrediting body in the 11 U.S. Southern states and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees.

In higher education, the SACS reaffirmation of accreditation is a peer review process and the equivalent of the “good housekeeping seal.” Representatives from other colleges and universities in the South put CBU under the microscope and confirmed that the University is indeed an institution of the highest quality.

“Although not unexpected, I am extremely pleased with this 10 year endorsement by the SACS Commission on Colleges provided to Christian Brothers University,” notes CBU President Dr. John Smarrelli, Jr. “This reaffirmation of accreditation validates the outstanding work of our faculty and staff to provide our students with an education that is second to none, and confirms our ongoing commitment to teaching excellence.”

Furthermore, the SACS accreditation permits faculty to compete for federally funded research grants and for students to have access to federally subsidized financial aid. It also means that other institutions recognize CBU courses.

As Vice President for Academics, Dr. Frank Buscher comments, “Every Mid-Southerner knows that Christian Brothers University offers its students an excellent university education at a very affordable price. The Commission on Colleges’ recent decision to reaffirm CBU bears this out. It enables the University to continue doing what it has done so well since 1871, to make the area a better place to live and work by educating its residents.”

CBU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor’s Degree and the Master’s Degree. To learn more about CBU and its academic programs visit www.cbu.edu.  ###
