Forbes’ list of public and private colleges and universities ranked Christian Brothers University (CBU) among “America’s Best Colleges in the Nation” from the students’ perspectives for the second consecutive year.
The Forbes ranking is designed to meet the needs of undergraduate students. It attempts to help them evaluate things that many believe are important criteria when selecting a college. Forbes list of 650 undergraduate schools– the top 20% of all undergraduate institutions – focuses on the things that matter the most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, graduation rates and low levels of debt.
This year, five factors were used in compiling the rankings, with no single factor counting more than 30%. The five general categories included: Post Graduate success (32.5%), which evaluates alumni pay and prominence, Student Satisfaction (27.5%), which includes professor evaluations and freshman to sophomore year retention rates, Debt (17.5%), which penalizes schools for high student debt loads and default rates, Four Year Graduation Rate (11.25%) and Competitive Awards (11.25%), which rewards schools whose students win prestigious scholarships and fellowships like the Rhodes, the Marshall and the Fulbright.
In addition to being one of “America’s Best Colleges in the Nation,” CBU also ranked as one of the Best Private Colleges in the Nation. These rankings are exclusively prepared for Forbes by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP), a Washington D.C. think tank, who determine which factors to include and the weights to be used in evaluating each factor.
