BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Gulf South Conference-high four Christian Brothers University basketball players were named to the Academic All-GSC Team.
The Bucs comprised half of the men’s Academic All-GSC Team. Senior guard Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS), junior guard Trey Casey (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) and sophomore forward Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) all earned spots on the Academic All-GSC Team after leading the Bucs to an 18-11 record and the GSC finals.
McArthy started all 29 games for the Bucs, scoring 13.0 points per game with 2.2 assists per game, and he carries a 3.59 GPA in business administration.
Casey, also a First Team All-GSC and Capital One First Team Academic All-America pick, averaging 17.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game to go with a perfect 4.0 GPA in business administration. Casey was the only unanimous selection to the men’s Academic All-GSC squad.
Hildreth averaged 10.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the Bucs to go with a 3.45 GPA in business administration.
Senior guard Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) represents the Lady Bucs on the women’s Academic All-GSC team after leading CBU to a 15-13 record and the No. 4 seed in the GSC Tournament. Burgess averaged 14.3 points and 2.5 steals per game while carrying a 4.0 GPA as she pursues her master’s degree in teaching.
CBU placed a total of 13 players on the GSC Winter Academic Honor Roll, with seven men’s players and six women’s players. CBU’s total of 13 is tied for the highest total for any full GSC member, as is the men’s total of seven members.
To be nominated for the Academic All-GSC Team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be starters or significant contributors to the team. Freshmen and first-semester transfers are ineligible. SID’s and FAR’s of GSC member schools conduct a joint vote to select the winners. The Academic Honor Roll comprises all players who carry at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and participate in at least one game, match or meet against outside competition.
