A gifted visual artist and singer with a talent for songwriting, poetry and rap, Devin Westbrook’s musical influences range from Jay-Z, Outkast, Tupac, Prince, and D’angelo to Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and traditional gospel. Devin transferred from the University of Memphis to Visible Music College in 2017 to pursue his music full time and was soon signed to Madison Line Records.

Here’s what Devin had to say about the inspiration behind his recently released song: “‘Calling Your Name’ was inspired by Psalm 121:1, ‘I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?’ It was written out of a moment of private worship. Just me playing random chords on my guitar and singing whatever came out naturally. That opening line was the first thing that came out and from there I had my inspiration. It’s meant to express dependence, repentance and rededication. It’s a humbling of oneself and somewhat of a public statement; a declaration that I need God and that I will always strive to lean on his strength instead of my own.”

Devin will bring two other musicians with him to CBU to perform pop/rock covers Wednesday, September 16.

Watch CBU’s social media channels for any relocations in the event of rain!
