This workshop will offer strategies and practices you can enact in your classroom spaces and in our office spaces. These practices translate into our virtual spaces as well.

“The only way to undo racism is to consistently identify it and describe it–and then dismantle it.” –Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Antiracist

We are having a national discussion on racial disparities and inequality in this country. These conversations have made systemic racism and xenophobic structures more visible and palpable, requiring a reckoning and a response.  As an expression of our Lasallian principle of concern for the poor and social justice, our shared goals of education and our shared Lasallian values, especially our motto of “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve,” a part of this interrogation is considering our classroom and office space practices. Are they equitable? Are they anti-racist? Enacting an anti-racist pedagogy is more than adding diverse content to a course or adding taglines to an email signature; it is “about how one teaches, even in courses where race is not the subject matter” (Kishimoto). We can work toward these goals every day in our classrooms and in our office spaces.

Join Dr. M. Brielle Harbin (U.S. Naval Academy), Dr. Maureen O’Brien (Christian Brothers University), and Dr. Tawny LeBouef Tullia (Christian Brothers University) as we offer skill-building and pedagogical tools for enacting anti-racist practices.
