Brother Chris Englert (’77) was appointed Interim President of Christian Brothers University by the Board of Trustees, effective on June 1, 2024.

Brother Chris Englert first met the Christian Brothers while attending La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon graduation, he entered the postulancy for the Brothers in Glencoe, Missouri and from there entered the novitiate, taking his first vows in 1974. The next three years were spent as a scholastic at Christian Brothers University (which was at the time known as Christian Brothers College), where he earned a BA in Humanities in 1977. He went on to earn two master’s degrees, one from La Salle University in Religious Studies and another from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in Educational Administration.

He returned to his high school alma mater in Cincinnati and began teaching English and Religion for the next four years. Brother Chris then moved to Newport Catholic and taught English and Religion for three years. From there he served five years in high school administration as Dean of Students at O’Hara High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Brother Chris returned to Memphis in 1988 to take the position of Vice Principal at Christian Brothers High School (CBHS); after one year, he was promoted to CEO (Principal/President) and served in that leadership role until 2018. Brother Chris then served as the Auxiliary Provincial for the Midwest District of the Christian Brothers, where he assisted in the ministry to the Brothers and the oversight of the ministries. He also served on the CBU Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2023.

“It is an honor to be asked to serve this great institution that not only provided an education and career path but helped to grow my faith and value system,” said Englert. “This is a full-circle moment, and I look forward to reminding the community why this institution has had a significant impact on students, just like me, for more than 150 years.”
