Graduate Admissions FAQ

Who has to pay the tuition deposit?
Graduate Students: All international graduate students seeking an F1 visa must pay a tuition deposit before an I-20 will be generated.
Undergraduates: Undergrad students will pay the deposit after obtaining a visa.

How much is the tuition deposit?
Graduate Students: The tuition deposit amount is $550.00 USD. This deposit will be credited to the student’s account as a tuition payment and will reduce the amount owed for the semester.
Undergraduates: The tuition deposit amount for undergraduate students is $300.00 USD.

How do I pay the tuition deposit?
All Students: Tuition deposit payments are accepted through Flywire and Touchnet. Click HERE to access CBU’s Flywire landing page, or click HERE to access Touchnet. Step-by-step instructions can be found HERE through the Business Office. You will need your student ID number from your CBU acceptance letter to submit payment. IMPORTANT: Payments made through Flywire will take 5-7 business days to post.
Undergraduates: You may also access Touchnet via your student portal HERE.

Is the tuition deposit refundable?
Graduate Students: The tuition deposit is non-refundable except in cases when the visa is denied (refused). The visa denial must be confirmed through the U.S. Department of State before a refund is granted. Once the visa denial is confirmed, $500.00 USD will be credited through Flywire or Touchnet. Your tuition deposit credit will remain on your student account for one year (365 days). After the one-year period, you will forfeit your tuition deposit.
Undergraduates: The tuition deposit is non-refundable.

If I paid the tuition deposit and need to defer my admission to a future term, am I required to pay another tuition deposit?
All Students: In the event that your admission is deferred to a later term, you will not be required to make a new tuition deposit payment if you enroll within one year. Your tuition deposit credit will remain on your student account for one year (365 days). After the one-year period, you will forfeit your tuition deposit.

If I received an I-20 for a prior term, am I required to pay a tuition deposit to receive a new I-20?
Graduate Students: Yes. You must pay the tuition deposit in order to receive a new I-20. The only exception is if you paid a tuition deposit for a prior term. Your tuition deposit credit will remain on your student account for one year (365 days). After the one-year period, you will forfeit your tuition deposit.
Undergraduates: No.

If I opt to transfer my SEVIS record to another university, will my tuition deposit be refunded?
All Students: No. If you obtain a visa using a CBU I-20 and opt not to attend CBU, the tuition deposit will not be refunded. The deposit is only refundable if your visa is denied, and that denial can be confirmed through the U.S. Department of State. See the above question about refunds.

If I already have a visa from another U.S. college/university, am I required to pay a tuition deposit?
All Students: Yes. Upon acceptance to CBU, the DSO at your current university must complete a SEVIS transfer. Once our DSO confirms receipt of your SEVIS transfer, you will need to pay the $550 tuition deposit to receive a CBU I-20 and enroll.
