At the close of each semester, the CBU Registrar calculates GPA and Academic Standing. Students are notified by the Registrar in the event of a change to their academic standing. Cumulative GPAs are not rounded up when calculated.

Academic Standing is as follows:

  • Good Standing: Cumulative GPA 2.0 or above
  • Academic Probation: Cumulative GPA below 2.0
  • Academic Suspension: Cumulative GPA and semester GPA both below 2.0 following one at least one semester on Academic Probation
  • Academic Probation Removed: Cumulative GPA returns to 2.0 or above.

ACADEMIC PROBATION

A student whose cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0 will be placed on Academic Probation for the subsequent semester. A student on Academic Probation is required to work with the Office of Academic Support on development and implementation of an individualized Academic Success Plan. If the student does not attain a 2.0 cumulative GPA during the probationary semester but does attain a semester GPA of at least 2.00 and has upheld their Academic Success Plan, the student will remain on Academic Probation and may continue at the University. Once the cumulative GPA is above a 2.0, the student will be removed from Academic Probation. Status will change to Academic Probation Removed for the next semester, and if the student keeps their cumulative GPA above 2.0 for the next semester, status will revert back to Good Standing for the upcoming semester.  A student who is returning on probation is limited to 15 hours per semester unless written permission to carry more hours has been obtained from the Vice President for Academics.

ACADEMIC SUSPENSION

If a student does not attain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and does not attain a semester GPA of 2.0 while on Academic Probation, the student will be academically suspended from the University for one major semester.  Students suspended following the Spring Semester are not eligible for enrollment during the Summer Terms.  Students may not enroll in classes at CBU while on Academic Suspension.  Credits earned during the semester(s) of suspension are not transferable to CBU, unless the student completes an Off-Campus Course Request prior to registering for a class at another university. After the period of suspension, the student may reapply to the University; however, readmission is not guaranteed.

Academic Suspensions can be appealed. Click here for the procedure.
