According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of accountants and auditors will grow by 10% from 2016 to 2026. This is faster than average, and means that a wide variety of opportunities are available to accounting professionals in an equally wide variety of fields. CBU alumni work in some of the finest businesses and public accounting firms in the nation, and in areas such as government, tax, criminal justice, and entrepreneurship.

Our program enjoys a well-established and influential presence in the Memphis and Mid-South area because it teaches you the skills, techniques, and concepts necessary to succeed. You’ll learn to keep up with financial laws and corporate governance regulations, and to keep the books clean and accurate for company leaders. And you’ll learn to use your motivation and drive to access rewarding opportunities.

Program Highlights

Accountants and auditors serve a critical role in analyzing and reporting on financial information for a wide variety of businesses. To develop the analytical, conceptual, and technical knowledge and proficiency you’ll need, the degree provides you with the ability to:

  • Implement fundamental principles and procedures
  • Use technology tools related to the area
  • Analyze alternatives to complex problems
  • Use information in the field in making business decisions
  • Synthesize accounting information and non-accounting information to appropriately assess business opportunities

What You’ll Study

The major requires 121 credit hours. You’ll take CBU general education courses, business core and support courses, and major courses in:

  • Financial accounting
  • Federal income taxation
  • Accounting systems
  • Auditing
  • Professional ethics
  • Cost accounting
  • Government and non-profit accounting
  • Financial statement analysis

You’ll also complete an exit exam.
