For The Commercial Appeal in June, Co-founder and Executive Director of CodeCrew Meka Egwuekwe, wrote that the “Black tech ecosystem in Memphis holds immense potential for driving economic development and creating opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, innovators, and professionals.” He adds, “In today’s increasingly digital age, technology has become the driving force behind economic growth and development. However, the Black community still faces significant disparities in access to and representation within the tech industry.”

Since its inception in 2015, CodeCrew has offered in-school electives, after-school and weekend programs, summer programs, an app publishing program, and internship programs, as well as their Code School in our Memphis communities. CodeCrew has taught 2,000 students to code, taught them principles of information and computation how digital systems work, and they’ve taught students how to put this knowledge to use through programming and software development concepts.
