Solar Eclipse
Apr
8
The Department of Physics and the School of Sciences invite you to watch the 2024 solar eclipse Monday, April 8 in Plough Courtyard! They plan to be set up by noon. The eclipse begins at 12:37 p.m., is at its maximum at 1:57 p.m., and is over at 3:15 p.m. While the eclipse is not total in Memphis, 97.6% of the Sun will be blocked by the Moon at the maximum. Don’t miss this fantastic event! The next eclipse with this much of the Sun blocked won’t be visible in Memphis until 2045!
* The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters such as eclipse glasses. Do not look at the eclipse directly without eye protection.
Additional Details
They will have a telescope along with 200 pairs of eclipse glasses. First come-first serve on the glasses.
