Catholics believe that the Eucharist is literally the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. To receive Holy Communion at a Catholic Mass means that one assents to all the teachings of the Catholic Church, including the Real Presence of Jesus in what appears to be bread and wine. For that reason, only Catholics who are in a state of grace may receive the Blessed Sacrament. Please do not let that discourage you from attending — all are invited to participate.
