Alumni Lifelong Learning
CBU now offers Alumni Lifelong Learning benefits to graduates from both bachelor’s and master’s degree levels.
Lifelong Learning Discount
Students who have received an undergraduate degree from Christian Brothers University (CBC/CBU) will receive a twenty-five percent (25%) discount towards tuition and fees for the next academic program at the university that they choose to pursue. A CBU alumnus/a who has previously earned a degree from Christian Brothers University (bachelor or master-level degree) is eligible for earn another degree at a 25% tuition discount.*
*The 25% Alumni Discount is not available for enrollment in the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) or the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) degree programs.
Free Class for Life
All graduates, with either a bachelor’s or master’s degree from CBU, are now eligible to further continue their education by taking one undergraduate or graduate course per year at no cost. A year is defined as a continuous three-term period (e.g., spring, summer, fall, or fall, spring, summer, etc., counting from the term in which the student first enrolls). This new Alumni Lifelong Learning benefit is offered as an alternative to the already existing 25% discount that CBU undergraduate and graduate alumni currently receive for additional coursework they pursue at their alma mater. Graduate alumni can apply the benefit to undergraduate or graduate courses — all coursework is covered.
Alumni may choose to use the no-cost option or the 25% discount. Graduates who exercise the no-cost option will not receive the discount for any additional courses in that academic year. The University also reserves the right to limit the number of free alumni courses that are available each year, and participation is constrained on a first-come, first-served basis.
Some CBU programs will not qualify for the free class discount. These include all classes in the Physician Assistant Studies Program, Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, and classes that are offered through a partnership with another college or external agency.

Free Class for Life: FAQ
CBU recently announced a free class for life program. What is that?
All CBU alumni who have graduated from CBU with a bachelor’s degree or higher are eligible for the free class program. The program is intended to cultivate opportunities for continuous and lifelong learning. CBU’s tradition of Lasallian education is intended for personal enrichment and growth as well as for the acquisition of professional skills and knowledge. We hope that our alumni will find abundant opportunities to continue learning with us.
How does it work?
The free class program allows alumni to take one class per year at no cost for tuition. A year is equivalent to three consecutive fall, spring, and summer terms, counting from the term in which the student first enrolls, and the class can be one (1) to three (3) credit hours in length. Please note that the program does not accommodate the bundling of multiple classes of less than three hours.
Do I need to apply?
Yes. Participants in the free class program must apply as special students whether for undergraduate or graduate level courses. The application form may be found here: https://www.cbu.edu/apply/. After you create an account, select Alumni Lifelong Learning from the dropdown menu.
Are books and other fees included in the free program?
Students are responsible for the cost of all course fees and other materials. Students will be automatically enrolled in CBU’s Follett Access program for course materials. Information about Follet Access may be obtained here: CBU Follett Access.
Is taking a free class the same as auditing a course?
No. Students enrolled in the free class program will be fully enrolled in the course. This means that any grade earned in the course, including possible “W” grades, will be recorded on a student’s CBU transcript. CBU does have a course audit program which is half the cost of normal tuition. Information about the audit program may be found in the CBU Academic Catalog.
Am I guaranteed a seat if I am admitted for a free class?
The free class program is offered on a seat-available and a first-come first-served basis. All CBU courses are offered contingent upon enrollment and may be cancelled for low enrollment. Seats will be prioritized for current full and part-time students, and class capacities may preclude the free class option in rare cases.
Can I take any class for free?
Some CBU programs do not qualify for the free class discount. These include all classes in the Physician Assistant Studies program, the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, and classes that are offered through a partnership with another college or external agency.
CBU also now offers a 25% discount for alumni. Is the free class option a better deal?
In the vast majority of cases, the 25% alumni discount is more beneficial economically for any student pursuing a full degree and wanting to earn that degree relatively quickly. Students may not take advantage of the free class and 25% alumni discounts in the same year. NOTE: The 25% Alumni Discount is not available for enrollment in the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) or the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) degree programs.
How do I make sure I get the 25% discount?
You will need to fill out the electronic tuition discount form during the application process. NOTE: The 25% Alumni Discount is not available for enrollment in the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MSCMHC) or the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) degree programs.
