Brother Michael Fugger, FSC (’78)

“I enjoyed having the Brothers as teachers in high school, and since I was thinking about the Brother’s vocation, it made sense for me to attend CBU.”

Brother Michael Fugger enrolled at Christian Brothers College (now University) as a lay student in 1974 and joined the Christian Brothers postulancy after his first year. While a student at CBC, he was also part of the yearbook staff and worked on stage scenery construction and stage crews during several drama presentations. He graduated in 1978 with a BA in Humanities and went to teach at Archbishop O’Hara High School in Kansas City, Missouri that fall.

He made his novitiate in 1980-81 in Skaneateles, New York. Upon completion of the novitiate, he professed his first vows. In 1981, he moved to Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he worked for eleven years. During this time, he earned an MA in Reading Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. While in Tulsa, he taught English and was also instrumental in setting up an office computer system that was used for student records and class scheduling.

In 1992, Brother Michael moved back to Memphis and Christian Brothers High School, where he has served as an English teacher. He also works part-time as a computer system administrator and helps maintain student records in the student management programs.

The interest and concern the Brothers had for me as a student in both high school and college helped me realize that I did want to join them as my vocation. I have seen the care and concern they have for students. I have also seen this same care and concern for students from the faculties and staffs at CBU and the other institutions where I have ministered.
