Brian Thompson (’97)
Brian Thompson graduated in the class of 1997 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He spent his early years out of college working at Lurgi PSI as a Project Engineer and Scheduler where he managed and coordinated construction activities for a $60 million sugar mill construction project in North Dakota for a community of farmers.
In 2004, he founded Versatile Technology Group, LLC where he developed all service delivery models for managed IT services, backup and disaster recovery solutions, network security, help desk, network support, and installation support. Over eight years, he led Versatile Technology Group to a position in the market for sale to larger IT company where he became a principal. Brian has continued his education by graduating from the Tennessee Elected Officials Academy with both Levels I and II certifications. He is also a graduate from the Tennessee Local Government Leadership Program and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy. Brian currently works as a Solution Consultant for ServiceNow, a US-based enterprise software company, where he has been employed since 2018.
Brian is a devoted husband, a present father, a knowledgeable businessman, and a humble political figure. He is always willing to pitch in for the good of the community regardless of the mission. Through many changes in leadership, Brian has made a difference in the Town of Arlington and has positively impacted the people of that community and beyond. As a member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, he has helped connect local businesses and citizens to develop a more connected community. He was recognized as the Arlington, TN “Citizen of the Year” in 2004 and was named to the Memphis Business Journal “Top 40 Under 40” in 2009. HIs community service efforts are unique and far-reaching. He has spent many years serving the Town of Arlington in various roles fighting for community inclusion and social justice. He was elected in 2005 by the citizens of Arlington and won two additional elections to serve a total of 12 years as Alderman. He has also served as Chairman of the Arlington Design Review Committee, as coordinator of the Arlington BBQ Fallfest, and as coordinator of the Arlington Star Spangled Spectacular. He currently serves as Chairman of the Arlington Planning Commission. Brian epitomizes servant leadership and inspires others to give back and pay it forward.
