Voting FAQs
To make sure that our Bucs know how and when and where to vote, we have included the following Voting FAQs below.
When and where can I register to vote?
Voter registration varies by state. Check this link for information for the voter registration deadlines in your state.
I may already be registered but I don’t know. How do I know if I’m registered to vote?
You can check your voter registration status directly by using this voter registration lookup site.
As a resident student, can I register to vote at my CBU address?
YES! You have the right to register to vote at your school address — this includes a dorm room. If you receive mail at a campus mailbox, you can sign an affidavit or get a letter from Residence Life asserting that you live at your dorm address. You will need to list the physical address and not your mailbox number.
Does a voter card serve as a form of identification for voting?
Most states do not accept a voter card as a form of ID. Photo ID is required to vote in Tennessee (such as Tennessee driver’s license, United States Passport, ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security). If you are a first-time voter who mailed in your registration form or registered online, check out this link for information on what identification you will need at the polls.
Where do I vote early?
In Tennessee, you can vote at any of the early voting locations in your county. Check out this link for information on where you can vote early in other states.
How do I obtain an absentee ballot?
To vote by absentee ballot, you must submit an absentee ballot request form through your state. Check out this link for information.
