CEL Course Development Grants

CBU’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE) invites proposals for $1,000 Community-Engaged Learning Course Development grants from CBU faculty, staff, and adjunct instructors who teach undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students. The CCE seeks to award up to five grants on an annual cycle that are active for one academic year; Fall or Spring semester. This timeline allows faculty to either integrate CEL components into an existing course OR develop a course not yet confirmed for the academic year.

The grant aims to encourage the development of new or existing Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) courses (also commonly termed “service-learning”) that integrate community-engaged service components in the curriculum. Those who have previously received a CEL Course Development Award may apply again if developing a new CEL course or CEL course component and partnership for an existing CEL course.

Faculty who chooses to continue existing CEL and/or CE (Community-Engaged) component courses will continue to be able to access all resources via the Center for Community Engagement but will not be eligible for the grant assistance after the course’s initial year. Lastly, all courses labelled as CELs (Community Engaged Learning Courses) or including CE components will be provided with a specific identification within the Registrar’s catalog to highlight participants (particularly students via their transcripts) in completing this unique, and fully accredited course. 

*2022-2023 applicants must partner with agencies in Orange Mound and Binghampton. The CCE also seeks representation in awardees from across the schools and professional studies programs.

In advance of the application deadline, the CCE is hosting a series of virtual conversations that serve to introduce CEL, its best practices, and inspiring models. Open to applicants and faculty/staff interested in learning more about CEL pedagogy, these intimate sessions will allow participants to ask specific questions, discuss best practices, and explore models.
