In an uplifting gathering at the University Theater, Christian Brothers University (CBU) held its annual Community Convocation on Thursday, August 15. Faculty, staff, and administration came together to reflect on the past year and chart the course for the year ahead.

The event opened with a prayer and words of inspiration from Director of Campus Ministry Joel Kelley, who shared an African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Brother Chris, CBU’s Interim President, emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, encapsulating the Lasallian principle of “Together and by Association.” He remarked, “It’s together and by association that this school will move forward. “In a powerful display of solidarity and commitment, the Brothers renewed their vows during the annual convocation.

Morgan Mann, Director of Annual Giving, shared her experience: “It was a powerful reminder of the work we do. Seeing the Brothers recite their vows was truly inspiring, and it’s wonderful to be back together as a group, preparing for another great year.”

“This was my first convocation,” said Gail Cotton, Admissions Counselor. “I really enjoyed learning about each department and their goals. It was truly beneficial.”

Dr. Daniel S. Harper, Associate Vice President of Enrollment and Management, shared encouraging news on enrollment. Despite national challenges in higher education, CBU is experiencing a slight increase in new student enrollment for the fall semester.

The convocation also outlined key priorities for the coming year, including enhancing infrastructure, strengthening recruitment, and deepening alumni engagement. Ryan Flickinger, Vice President of Advancement, shared ambitious fundraising goals, highlighting a remarkable 108% increase in funds raised compared to the previous year.

“We want to activate this campus,” said Flickinger, describing efforts with Beth Gerl, VP of Student Affairs, to re-energize student engagement and enrich the campus experience.

Ron Brandon, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer provided a comprehensive administrative update, touching on the successes and challenges faced during the 2023-24 academic year. In addition, he led a Q&A session, answering an array of questions and receiving valuable input from campus faculty and staff.

Employees were also recognized for their exemplary years of service to CBU.
