Christian Brothers University (CBU) has been recognized as an ‘Exceeding Expectations’ educator preparation provider in the latest Annual Educator Preparation Report Card. This designation highlights CBU’s commitment to preparing highly effective educators who make a lasting impact in classrooms.

The report card, published by the Tennessee State Board of Education, evaluates educator preparation programs on key performance indicators, including candidate recruitment, employment outcomes, and teacher effectiveness.

“Earning the highest rating reflects CBU’s excellence in preparing skilled, dedicated educators and reinforces our mission to develop top-tier teachers ready to motivate, educate, and inspire,” said Brother Chris Englert, CBU Interim President.

CBU’s Department of Education in the Rosa Deal School of Arts has consistently fostered high-quality teacher candidates, emphasizing hands-on experience, equity-focused teaching strategies, and lifelong professional growth.

Additionally, as of November 2024, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) granted full accreditation for all programs in CBU’s Department of Education. Accreditation is awarded when an Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) meets CAEP standards, including partnerships and practice, content knowledge, and program impact.

“The Department of Education aims to help address the teacher shortage by preparing the next generation of educators to lead and serve while equipping students with the skills to achieve academic success,” said Dr. Cynthia Alexander Mitchell, CBU Graduate Director and Associate Professor.

A prime example of this commitment is the Aspiring Teacher Program, where current educational assistants and individuals seeking teacher certification and licensure receive training and support from CBU’s faculty and staff. This is another way CBU supports its surrounding communities.

CBU is one of only ten (10) EPPs state-wide to earn the highest rating. For more information about CBU’s educator preparation programs, click here.
