Foer will discuss his new book, We Are the Weather: Saving the Planet Begins at Breakfast
Renowned author Jonathan Safran Foer will discuss his new book, We Are the Weather: Saving the Planet Begins at Breakfast, on Thursday, September 10, at 7:30 pm as part of the Fresh Reads program at Christian Brothers University and the community-wide Memphis Reads. The online event will feature a presentation from Foer, followed by a question-and-answer period with attendees. It will be presented via Zoom (see link information below).
Jonathan Safran Foer is one of America’s most prominent writers. The author of several bestselling and critically acclaimed novels — including Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close — We Are the Weather is his second work of non-fiction. The book explores climate change, the central global dilemma of our time, in a deeply personal and urgent new way, perhaps the unifying and achievable call to action we need in these polarizing times.
In the book, Foer reveals how the task of saving the planet will involve a great reckoning with ourselves, and that only through collective action will we save our home and way of life. Drawing from history, science, religion, personal stories, and more, he shines light on the human condition and society at large, revealing how to broach difficult conversations with people whose opinions differ from our own; how small, quotidian decisions really can make a difference; and how to actually take action, do something, and change the world. A message sorely needed in today’s divisive and often overwhelming times, Foer’s words unite and provide some much-needed direction on what we can all do to make a difference.
